  1. The elderly, who are supposed to be taken care of, have to enter workplace in order to support themselves. And the fact of the matter is that the number of old- employed workers has increasingly grown in recent years for some reason. It seems to be inevitable that these people have to compete against the young in labour market. As a result, there are a number of implications that such phenomenon brings.

Since the financial crisis in 2008, a large number of households have been struggling in order to survive. And yet family budgets have been cut in minimum. Because of that, the older people have no choice but to participate workforce. Therefore, it leads to problems. Firstly, in the competition of gaining a position in a firm, it is likely to be unfair between the older people and the young. In fact, employers, who are seeking for new candidates, are quite reluctant to hire old people. And they have good reasons to be. The elderly, obviously, can not contribute to the company they are currently working for in a long time compared to young generations. Moreover, it has been scientifically proven that the level of concentration will decrease accordingly to ages. It indicates that young people can have work done more effectively and productively. The second problem is the unpleasant outcomes. The older people are probable to face higher tendency of not being hired, the product of that is they will end up being unemployed. It creates a heavy burden for society to look after them in a wide range of issues.

In order to address the problems, the coordination between each family and government is highly crucial. Children should have responsibilities to provide support to their older members so that they no longer need to seek employment. Meanwhile, the government ought to have policies in place to have those who are not looked after by their own family taken care of. Building high standard nursing home systems is helpful to tackle these problems.

The elderly will not be in a position to compete with the young in any facet of workplace. And I strongly believe that they are the ones who should have a comfortable life instead of being desperately in need of employment.
